3 strings Fiddle

About 3 strings Fiddle

This model is based on 13th century instruments and is also known as the Giga.

Its evolved shape, with the shoulders trimmed and the recesses more open to allow the bow to play melodies, reminds us of the future violin. In the 15th century the pegbox was usually seen in the shape of a sickle and the first representations of the ‘modern’ violin, around 1510, show an instrument with 3 strings.

In this case this small 3-stringed fiddle, with a higher pitched sound, is ideal for emphasising melodies and accompanying dances.
